You made it back for Part three of our exciting journey! I'm thrilled to dive into the details as we continue exploring. Let’s jump right in!
Day 3 began once again with breakfast at Cabanas, the cruise ship’s popular buffet. As I mentioned in Part two, our previous breakfast there had been quite crowded. However, this time proved to be a bit more relaxed. Matt ventured down to the buffet early while I was still waking up, and he had no trouble finding a table for us. I soon joined him, and we discovered that arriving a little earlier during the less popular breakfast hours made a noticeable difference in avoiding the crowds.
After finishing our meal, we grabbed some coffee to go, refilled our water bottles, and set off for Lookout Cay, which is Disney's newest private destination. Lookout Cay opened its doors in June 2024, so it was a fresh experience for most of the cruise line passengers, having only been operational for about six months. It’s important to clarify that we refer to this place as a destination rather than a private island because Disney does not own the entire island; rather, they purchased a parcel of land on Eleuthera Island in the Bahamas. Interestingly, this same island also hosts a private destination for Carnival Cruise Line, which is located right next door to Disney’s section. We could even see their tender boats preparing to bring passengers over.
Having a long pier at Lookout Cay is one of its standout features. And when I say long, I mean exceptionally long! I took the time to measure our walk from the cruise ship to the island, which took approximately 10 minutes. For guests with mobility challenges, Disney provides golf cart-like shuttles. As a Disney enthusiast who often follows discussions online, I had heard various opinions about this lengthy pier. I will say this: it wasn’t nearly as daunting as some had suggested! The necessity of this long pier stems from environmental considerations; the Bahamian government stipulated that Disney couldn’t build a direct pier due to the need for coral reef protection. Thus, they opted for a long pier instead of using tender boats.
Speaking of tender boats, we witnessed firsthand the difficulties they can pose. While we enjoyed breakfast, we saw the crew from Carnival Cruise Line attempting to ferry their passengers to their destination only to abandon the effort due to high winds, meaning those guests missed out on their day’s adventure. I can’t help but empathize with them; I would've felt quite upset not to experience the destination! Given the situation, I’d much prefer to walk the long pier any day.
Once we completed our trek along the pier, we hopped onto a shuttle for a scenic 10-minute ride to the beach and main area of Lookout Cay. The shuttle drive was quite pleasant, with beautiful views along the route. Upon arrival, we headed directly to the adults-only section known as Serenity Bay. I was absolutely blown away by the beach at Lookout Cay; the sand was incredibly soft with no traces of seaweed, and to top it off, it had a stunning pink hue! This unique color comes from a mixture of crushed coral and tiny shell fragments blended into the sand.
While Serenity Bay was beautiful, it is significantly smaller than the beach at Castaway Cay and not as distinctly separated from the family section, which was somewhat disappointing. Additionally, we found ourselves waiting longer than expected for drink service, indicating that the dining experience still needed refinement. Reflecting on our time at Lookout Cay, it became clear that this fresh destination is still in its early stages. Some amenities were not yet available (for instance, the bike path had yet to be established), resulting in limited options aside from lounging on the beach. I believe Lookout Cay needs a standout feature to truly differentiate itself from Castaway Cay. A large pool, complete with both adult-only and family-friendly sections like the one found at Royal Caribbean’s private island, would really enhance the experience at Lookout!
Lastly, I have to mention the food offered at Lookout Cay. I found the cuisine to be more flavorful and appealing than what we experienced at Castaway, primarily because the menu highlighted a variety of delicious Bahamian flavors that were absolutely delightful!
After we returned to the ship, we quickly swapped out our clothes for loungewear—though I’m still not sure if it’s more accurately called "cruise wear." It felt great to relax a little as we set off to explore the ship. We had some time to kill before dinner and the evening show, so we decided to seek out a fun photo opportunity.
On our way, we spotted the line to meet Minnie Mouse, who was dressed in her adorable Holiday outfit! Although I was eager to meet Minnie, I needed Matt to take the photos. When it was finally our turn, to my surprise, Minnie rushed past me and went straight for MATT! It seems she knows who she likes! She enveloped him in the biggest hug imaginable, and I couldn’t stop smiling—it was such a sweet moment. We managed to capture some fantastic photos that I’ll cherish forever. I really wish I had made time to meet more characters during the cruise; the lines weren’t long at all. Next time, I’ll definitely make a point of it!
After our encounter with Minnie, we made our way to The Walt Disney Theater for the much-anticipated "Frozen" show. We had missed the first night's performance of "Aladdin", so we were determined not to let this opportunity pass us by. We had heard rave reviews about the entertainment on the Disney Cruise Line, and I am thrilled to say that the "Frozen" show absolutely lived up to the hype. It was a captivating experience from start to finish! The performance was just the right length, and to my surprise, even Matt found himself enjoying it. The choreography was simply outstanding, and the sets were breathtaking. The blend of dancing, music, and storytelling was so well-executed that it kept us on the edge of our seats.
Once the Frozen show concluded, we hurried back to our stateroom to quickly change our outfits once again for dinner at The Enchanted Garden, which was our third rotational dining venue on this cruise. I must confess that while I was trying to soak in every moment with my family, a good portion of the dinner details elude me now. However, one thing I can’t forget is the appetizer that I ordered—a mouth-watering Tuna Tower. It was absolutely sensational! The layers were beautifully arranged, and the flavors were incredible—so incredible, in fact, that Matt ended up ordering it for himself... twice! It was reminiscent of sushi but served in a larger format, and it was simply to die for!
After our dinner, Matt and I usually seek out a cozy spot for a quick drink. However, after such a full day of excitement, we both felt a bit worn out and decided it was best to head to bed early. After all, we had to be asleep before Santa made his rounds! As we entered our room, we were greeted by a charming Christmas-themed towel animal—a snowman, to be precise—and some festive holiday treats waiting for us. It was such a wonderful surprise and a perfect way to end the day.
That wraps up Part Three of my Disney Cruise adventure! Stay tuned for the final installment, which will detail our sea day fun on Christmas Day!
